About the Author

Don lives in Portland, Oregon, most widely known as the location for TV shows Portlandia, Grimm and Leverage. He is a member of Willamette Writers and Oregon Writer's Colony, and is the Volunteer Coordinator for the annual Willamette Writers Conference with over 1000 attendees. He also volunteers with Oregon Writer's Colony staging author workshops and literary events. He graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Journalism and worked as news reporter at several newspapers in Portland where he covered police and city government. As a teenager, Don was a voracious reader of Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle, Dashiell Hammett, and other mystery authors and loves all kinds of mysteries. He writes thriller and hard-boiled yarns "but somehow humor manages to sneak into my writing voice," Don says. He also writes a blog on writing and getting publishing called I Love A Mystery. He has a short story available on Kindle called "Death Fits Like a Glove." It features the debut of woman sleuth Billie Bly, a tough female Private Investigator who turns a petnapping case into a lethal climax. He currently is working on another Billie Bly mystery-thriller, The Drone Apocalypse, about an assassin who converts a remote control aircraft into a drone to kill a popular presidential candidate.

I recently moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico after living in Portland, Oregon most of my life. After retirement, my wife persuaded me it was time for an adventure and she packed me up with all of our belongings and spirited me away to New Mexico.

If I make it sound like I had no choice, although a bit reluctant at first, I love New Mexico. My characters and books will begin making the transition as well. There are many exotic and interesting locales here to stimulate my plot ideas.

My Billie Bly P.I. series has been centered in Portland, most likely known as of late as the location for TV shows Stumptown, Portlandia, Grimm, and Leverage. My new home in Albuquerque is known tor talented authors such as mystery icon, Tony Hillerman, and the fan-favorite T.V. show, Breaking Bad. Recently I visited Madrid, New Mexico, and the Diner where Wild Hogs was filmed. It now sells motorcycle memorabilia and Wild Hogs movie-related items instead of food.

There is an old writing idiom which suggests you should write what you know so I will continue to utilize my diverse set of work experiences in my new location. I graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Journalism and worked as news and sports reporter on several newspapers, including The Oregonian, The Gresham Outlook, and The Idaho Statesman.

In my later years, I've been a Realtor and the head of a 6,000-member union representing health care and janitorial workers. I like to spend time with my family and grandchildren and do some fishing when I'm not writing.

And when she got out sadly her older brother saved her from another kill shot and died. Now the race was on who killed her brother. By the time it was said and done there was a half a dozen people good for the killing and all high up in law enforcement.

The combination of tough girl PI Billie Bly and the wry humor reminded me of Elmore Leonard. Interesting characters, set in Portland, Oregon, always a fun city. Billie Bly is equally helped and hindered by being an ex-cop, and almost always hindered by having no social skills. Good beach read for summer or cozy, curled up by the fire read for winter.

Bleeding Blue is a classic detective/mystery novel that will, I think, resonate with hard-core readers of this genre. Featuring a spunky female detective instead of a typical Sam Spade-type protagonist gives an unusual twist to the plot. While this genre is not my favorite, Weston weaves a story that carried me along to the end.

Just when I thought I figured out who did it something happened to shift to my attention to a different character. Great story. I haven’t read about as annoying a character in a long time. The woman is so focused on being more macho than those around her that she is just an irritating caricature of a woman. I couldn’t finish this book.
