I was pleased to see a short, concise biography of Roosevelt. The work is intended to be read in about an hour, and I found that was the case for me. The writing is easy to understand and provides a good snapshot this impressive man. Naturally a person as expansive as Theodore Roosevelt can only be addressed in a passing fashion in a short work, but each element of his life is well addressed. I certainly enjoyed the work, and if I had not read several other books on Roosevelt, I would find that this e-book provided an excellent introduction.

Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) was one of the greatest US presidents. He features are displayed with those of three other great presidents on Mount Rushmore. He was born to rich parents but decided to make a name for himself rather than living a life based on his parent’s wealth, and he succeeded.
This book tells about his life, marriage, his public career, being a police commissioner, governor, vice president, president, building the Panama Canal, creating the Rough Riders, wining the Nobel Prize, being the father of the US Navy, authoring 38 books, and much more.
Theodore Roosevelt’s story is in one of the truly great, highly educational books by Hourly History, one of the best buys on Amazon because of its price and the information that it gives to readers. This book can be acquired for free on Amazon along with many others. The books are composed by experts on history and people, are easy to read and complete in an hour. This book is only 52 pages. And, what is more, these books are very informative.

A good introduction to one of America's giants

As always, this is another good introduction for newcomers to American history and can also be enjoyed by those who are already aficionados of this time period. TR remains one of America's most revered presidents and for good reason. Beyond his anti trust laws and military record, there's also his vision and idealism which separates him from most of his contemporaries. He was a believer in his country and sought to inspire his fellow country men through his example so they could live by those same values. As with every historical figure he is not without his flaws. This mini biography does a good job listing these without being overly too critical, reminding the reader that the past cannot be changed, only studied. Teddy Roosevelt belonged to a bygone era. He was much a product of his time as anyone else, however, he also demonstrated an uncanny ability to look beyond the confines of his era because of his patriotic vision. Yet, in the end, it is time itself that proved to be Teddy's worst enemy as much of what he did -and still wanted to do- was undermined by human greed and corruption. The two things he fought against were seeded in his party and allowed to grow, largely in part due to (in his view) his professor's indolent nature.

Teddy Roosevelt America's first progressive president, in his administration progressivism began to take shape as a political force in the urban and state as well as federal governments. One of his policies was to call for an ever increasing strengthening of the civil service, which meant that government could appoint permanent bureaucratic elite, that was not subject to the democratic check of voters, - it was because of this, that future governments could only expand the civil service when trying to get jobs for the party faithful. With his secretary of Civil Service Reform the civil service underwent the greatest expansion, more than any other previous administration in the United States. Theodore Roosevelt loved war and military glory, T.R.'s and the Rough Riders Military Prowess in Cuba was less than overwhelming, he lead his men into ambush and absorbed heavy losses, backing up his military exploits as public legend. Even though T.R. was the first president dedicated to government conservation of public land, timber and other natural resources, in fact the conservation movement was really an alliance of elitist groups dedicated to preserving their own wealth and private interests. He was born wealthy but he did not condone the unfair practices that allowed a handful of greedy men to become extremely rich by exploiting workers. He took measures to stop the rich from controlling the destiny of America. He also expected Americans to relinquish loyalty to their old country and be Americans only. I even learned a few things that I did not know about Roosevelt.
