David Hamilton lives in Hertfordshire and now works in Hertfordshire after almost quarter of a century in the West-end. He is a 40-something year old Surveyor, a bike mechanic and part-time Games-master and enjoys most fantasy genres and road cycling, albeit generally not simultaneously.

Author of the Sci-fi trilogy, 'The Governor's Men', the final instalment of which went live on Amazon on the 18th April 2024.

It is a strange feeling to be rid of the brothers Toradon. Relief for certain with a hint of sadness thrown in for good measure, but overwhelmingly I am pleased that it's finished. The third book is an improvement on the second, which itself is far superior to the original novella I wrote at Uni. I am almost tempted to rewrite the Administration from scratch but 'it is what it is' as they say and following completion of the professional proof-reading earlier this year, it's as good as it's going to get! In some ways though I would rather people started with the Resurgence and finished with the New Empire!

Update (16/01/2023) The final book of the Governor's Men trilogy has a title - "The New Empire".

Update (26/05/2023) Several chapters of the new book are complete and my loyal band of readers are enjoying themselves immensely.

Update (09/11/2023) Only about three people read these updates, but I am pleased to say that Part 2 is almost complete and I'm onto the final third of the book. Amazing!

Update (14/12/2023) An update to the 3rd Edition of the Administration should go live today. Minor tweaks to the text but it has been comprehensively proof-read!

Update (22/02/2024) Hi! The New Empire is 95% complete. Hoping to publish in April. Get ready to binge read the conclusion of the trilogy. Finally!

Update (11/03/2024) It's finally complete and will be send to the proof-reader later this week. I'm pleased, relieved and a little sad.

Update (18/04/2024) The New Empire went live this evening - Currently on Kindle only but the paperback version should be available from next week. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great debut novella

This was my first sci-fi book and I’m pleasantly surprised. It was recommended to me and despite not expecting to enjoy it, I found that I did.

It well written (though could use a few more proof reads) and sets the scene for what could be a great series.

I feel invested in the characters and am ready to read the next in the series to see where the story goes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A promising start to a Sci-Fi series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 13, 2018
**Disclaimer - the author is my brother. So although honest, this review will have an inherent bias.**

This short story was well constructed and well written. Though it felt perhaps a little *too* short. The world felt real and had a touch of Cyberpunk-esque technology - think Blade Runner, or even Hugh Howey's 'Wool'. There is some very well written and gripping action, companionship, worldbuilding and some mild peril.

In all honesty, I've read better books, but I've also read far worse. And as a debut (written many years ago and only recently edited!) - things will only get better! The rating system for 4 stars means "I like it", which is what I would have rated this as had it not been written by my brother. The fact that I can see parts of him in the vast majority of the characters pushes this to the 5 star, or "I love it" rating.

I hope that Vil and Cassus return in future installments. I will definitely read them!

4.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly engaging quick read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 6, 2018
Hamilton succeeds in creating a thoroughly believable and memorable world. It's full of interesting and layered characters - and although "sci-fi", the land they inhabit amounts to a convincing one. Issues of civilisation, a striving for utopia and resources abound. The plot crackles along with intrigue, while diverting the reader into moments of intimacy and humour. Set pieces such as the trip to the arcade, and the relationship between the two brothers work very well. I look forward to the second installment - as this first entry feels very much a scene set for more. As a short read its high recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, the world created is a disturbingly realistic view of where society is heading! I personally enjoyed the idea of constructobots!

Would recommend to people who want to be transported to a brilliantly described sci-fi world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Next Book .... “The Liquidation”?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 12, 2019
Excellent debut book! All scarily possible in today’s new world. If you are also a forty-something surveyor (like the author), you are sure to notice some wry observations. The subtle humour made this book a page turner. I am looking forward to Part 2!
