Ann's Valley (Stone Ranch Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 525 ratings

Lady Ann needed to be on that wagon train. Even if it meant striking a deal with the surly, and devilishly handsome, mountain man to do it. More lives than just her own depended upon it…

She was the type he swore never to fall for again…
He was a complication she could ill afford…
Together they will discover love is worth the risk, no matter the cost…

Lady Ann Dunneroy finds herself in a desperate situation and her search for the man responsible leads her on a perilous journey to the American West. Relying solely on her wit and resourcefulness to survive, she strikes a deal with a rugged mountain man by the name of Grayson Stone. The more time Ann spends with Grayson, the less certain she is of the original mission she embarked upon. Determined to do what is right, Ann must make a difficult decision; one that may break her heart and perhaps cost her very life as well as the lives of those she loves most…

Grayson Stone is the leader of the wagon train and it’s his job to ensure everyone arrives safely; a duty made aggravatingly more challenging when he agrees to escort a reckless, young woman along the way. A hard man, as rugged and imposing as the mountains he calls home, Grayson wants only to live a peaceful life of solitude. But something about the tenacious Lady Ann makes him yearn for more…

A story of love and loss on the Santa Fe Trail! Follow the hoyden daughter of an earl, from the ballrooms of London to America’s wild frontier; where she must choose between her heart and her honor.

Excerpt from Ann’s Valley:

“Nothing has changed.” Grayson’s words were direct and curt.

Ann stiffened, feeling her anger with him return, “I hadn’t been under the impression they had.”

“Do not confront me again on the matter. I will not change my mind. No woman or child allowed on the trail unless accompanied by a guardian. Is that understood?”

“Perfectly.” She leveled him with her most imperious stare. Then added impertinently, “And do you own the trail, then?”

His jaw clenched in irritable fashion, fastening her with a menacing glower, “Don’t even think about following on your own.”

“You can’t stop me.”

About the Author

Cayt Lawson is an avid reader of all historical fiction, but she favors romantic stories set in Regency England and the American Frontier. She was raised on a quarter horse ranch in the state of Michigan and traveled the rodeo circuit with her parents as a young girl. The modern cowboy lifestyle she grew up in greatly inspired her love of the American West; the romanticized time in history sparked her desire to explore other remarkable periods of the past. Cayt currently spends most of her time trying to keep up with her three energetic, young, children and -much to the detriment of her husband's sanity- adding animals to her growing hobby farm. When Cayt isn't reading or caring for her beloved children and critters, her time is spent researching and thinking up new stories.

Anne was a pampered daughter of British nobleman. But she was allowed to do things that were often not things that girls were allowed to do. She rode horses, shot firearms, and pretty much anything else her heart desired. These skills would come in handy when she crossed the Atlantic and then traveled to the wild West.

Anne met a man from Charleston who dazzled her, married her, bedded her, and left her pregnant and then
boarded a ship back to Charleston leaving Anne behind, telling her he would be back for her as soon as he handled some business matters. Anne realized soon that she was expecting a baby, sold all of her valuable jewelry, and headed to Charleston. The voyage was made difficult due to high seas and morning sickness.

After arriving in Charleston, she learned that he had traveled to St. Louis on business and it was unclear when he would return. After the babies were born she traveled to St. Louis only to learn that he had gone to Santa Fe. Anne joined a wagon train and attempted to join her husband.

Lots of things happened along the way. You need to read about all of her adventures. Did she ever find the father of her children? Did they live happily ever after? I am not divulging the answer, but you will need to read it yourself to find out. There is a lot of adventure in this book.

I really enjoyed reading Ann's Valley, I feel bad that Ann went through so many hardships and yet she had Such a huge a loving heart. I am very glad that her and Greyson finely got together it took long enough.

Thin water will is a new Author for me so far I'm impressed however I'm starting book 2 and 3 still isn't complete yet so I am hoping that the author really does stay right on top of getting the books completed and not leave the series hanging.

I am seriously! Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I hope this book flows as smooth as the first book there was very few dead or slow spots.

Ann, a small woman, accomplishes amazing feats. She chases an Indian on horseback, stabs him and grabs her baby out of his arms (all on horseback). She wades through knee high snow with two toddlers strapped to her and fights off a bob cat. She jumps on the back of a standings grizzle bear and stabs it. Those are just a few of her unrealistic accomplishments. As for the story it is good but I didn’t like long paragraphs of thoughts. Also, Just as I would get into what was happening with one person it would jump to a different one which I found frustrating. I would still recommend it.

I really likes this story for the most part and would have given it the whole 5 stars but for a couple of drawbacks. First there were some mistakes in grammar such as "The sun had went down nearly an hour ago." Second about 2/3 of the way into the book it just got unbelievable for awhile. Then it picked back up and had a great finish. The main characters and the story were great and I liked how she finally brought it to a close.

Me Lawson has created a unique story. An English romance combined with an early American frontier romance. She accomplished with style and adventure. A wonderful story.

Riveting story of wanderlust and deep soul inspired love.i could not put this book down. The beauty and description of the rads travelled and the enduring life that was felt made me a part of every step and turn of the wagon wheels. The beauty of the developing love made all of the characters feel as if they were inside. My house and family with me. I gave this a 4 because I felt the chapters were too long and this book shoul definitely not have been a prequel .
