Girl Gone Home: A Twisted, Quirky, Absolutely Gripping Psychological Thriller Kindle Edition
From two-time Book of the Year finalist and Thriller of the Year Award winner Kathleen O’Donnell comes a gripping psychological thriller filled with quirky, unexpected twists.
A girl in serious trouble
Delilah Diamond had it all, the popular cooking show, a dream house, and a great romance with her producer, until the producer’s wife gets wind of it all. Delilah loses her show, her job, and her house. She’s forced to go back to her hometown where everyone has skeletons in their closet—or worse.
A home not like any other
She arrives just in time for the unfortunate death of her high school crush, but senses something's wrong with the story of his demise. Before she realizes it, she's knee-deep in a past that almost crushed her years before, and could very well crush her now, for good.
A mother who keeps sordid secrets
Local law enforcement is a homegrown drunk, and useless, so someone higher up the food chain sends a big city detective who starts sniffing around her classmate's suspicious death and her mother’s past. Delilah’s protective hackles are raised. She knows her mother has shameful secrets, but the more she learns, the more she realizes she doesn’t know the whole story.
A hometown that comes together, even in crime
In small towns, you protect your family and your neighbors come what may, but will Delilah be able to protect her mother without exposing her own sins? The ones she worked so hard to cover up? Will she be able to deter the detective away from the truth?
You can't go home again. Or can you? Should you? How safe is home when you know where the bodies are buried?
Girl Gone Home is ultimately a story about love, family, loyalty and circling the wagons no matter what terrible crime's been committed. It’s quirky, heartfelt, and reminiscent of Dolores Claiborne and the works of Kate Atkinson, Jane Hamilton, and Janet Evanovich.

Now, if that’s not enough to get your curiosity juices flowing, I don’t know what will. But if you want to find out what happens, you’ll just have to turn the pages for yourself! However, I will say it was well worth the read. It’s my second time reading this author and I was very impressed yet again.
This was a captivating read that had me engrossed from the beginning. The story flowed from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling. There’s an ample supply of attention-grabbing moments in this page turner that will take the reader on a compelling and gripping journey.
It’s one of those books that come along occasionally that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader.
I’ll be looking forward to reading more from Kathleen O’Donnell in the future. I would recommend this book to all fans of the Mystery, Thriller and Suspense genre, and would add that it has a has a distinctly cinematic feel to it. Highly recommended reading and a well-deserved five stars from me.
This is one of those reads that IMO you are either going to love or hate
The story takes place in Delilah's backwoods farming hometown. I think just about every cliche is represented. Which a few times had me rolling my eyes or smirking at the absurd truth of it all.
It jumps back and forth on a steady 10-year timeline. The transition is smooth and only adds to Delilah's retelling.
The telling starts out pretty entertaining and had me curious.
It did slow for a bit and I questioned my sanity in continuing but then it picked up again and from there it was non stop revelations. Each uncovering another clue or another holy chit moment - Many I never saw coming
We are left with some unanswered questions - many that I am hoping will lead to another book with some of the same cast.
There were some areas that could have used a bit more editing but they didn't cause a major distraction from the story itself- I'm just really picky when I read for me it's a bit like a movie so the script has to be just perfect.
The cast was colorful to put it simply - LOL - and I enjoyed visiting their small town even if it was on the heels of a?
Well, you are just going to have to find out for yourself my lips are sealed.
I’ve touted her work before when I reviewed Last Day for Rob Rhino and The Invisible Heiress.
I’m a big fan.
Some have described her book, Girl Gone Home as “…a fierce and unapologetic tale of the collision of ambition and indiscretion…”
Couldn’t have said it better myself, but I’ll try.
Her love to love ‘em characters come to life on every page as she lets us know more and more about each member of the quirky quorum that makes UP the population along the “Fifty-Three.”
Our heroine, Delilah Diamond, comes back to the Fifty-Three with a suitcase full of secrets where she’s met by those who love and hate her who have their own.
As the secrets are revealed the reader thinks on every page he knows who dunnit, but alas, Kathleen did it again.
I was totally, amazingly, and pleasantly fooled into thinking I knew the mind of Delilah, her chain-smoking, tee-shirt wearing, abused spouse of a mother, Fran, and the colorful but corrupt characters around her.
But each page brough a new theory to my mind, until at last, my jaw dropped when the final secret came to light.
Whether you’re sheltering in place, lying on an open beach, or hiding from your boss, there’s no one better to spend your time with than Delilah, Fran, Emily, and Jefferson Davis, all reckless residents of the Fifty-Three.
Kathleen is a two-time Book of the Year Finalist and a Thriller of the Year Award winner.
Check out Girl Gone Home, it’s the most entertaining book I’ve read this year and is a love story, a mystery, and a thriller from the first page on.
I must admit, just as when I think I’m the best at figuring out a plot, Oops! She did it again.
